Newtown is a charming borough and township within Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This suburban community was founded in 1684, and the borough’s entire central business district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, State Street offers unique shopping and dining with many restaurants, taverns, and boutiques lining its broad sidewalks, and nearby Tyler State Park is the most popular state park in Pennsylvania.

Newtown is located inside the larger Philadelphia metropolitan area and just west of the metropolitan area of Trenton, New Jersey. The community is surrounded by bucolic agricultural land, which was used as the main filming location for the movie Signs. Newtown offers some of Bucks County’s best shopping and dining, as well as access to the expansive 1,711-acre Tyler State Park. For families, Newtown has a great choice of public and private schools.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
State Street and its surrounding streets offer an enchanting mix of fine restaurants, inviting taverns, and independent retailers. La Stalla serves delicious Tuscan Italian cuisine in the rustic setting of a renovated 1920s barn. Diners enjoy a daily menu of fresh antipasti followed by elegant pasta dishes and scrumptious specialty desserts. La Stalla also offers an extensive selection of seasonal cocktails and Tuscan and Californian wines.
The Brick Hotel is a Newtown landmark that was built in 1763 and once included George Washington among its guests. A more recent famous guest was celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay instigated a revamp of this historic inn, leading to the opening of the stylish new dining space of Rocco’s Steakhouse & Bar.
The Temperance House is another longtime Newtown landmark which first opened in 1772. The Temperance House’s Tap & Barrel Tavern offers gourmet pub grub alongside 33 beer taps and an impressive wine list. The Tap & Barrel Tavern hosts themed nights throughout the week, including quizzes on Tuesdays, open mic performances on Wednesdays, live blues on Thursdays, and live music from top local acts on Fridays and Saturdays.
Things to Do
Tyler State Park extends across 1,711 acres of gorgeous woodlands and rural scenery surrounding the Neshaminy Creek at Newtown’s western edge. The park features many picnic areas and trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Attractions within Tyler State Park include the artists’ studios and workshops of Tyler Park Center for the Arts, and intimate theater staging plays from the Langhorne Players.
To the north of the borough of Newtown and Tyler State Park, Rose Bank Winery offers beautiful space for private events, weddings, and wine tasting. Rose Bank Winery produces a diverse mix of French-style wines, including reds, whites, and award-winning American fruit wines. The Tasting Room at Rose Bank Winery opens Thursday through Sunday to offer tastings of distinctive varieties paired with artisanal cheese platters.
